FORGING STRONGER COMMUNITIES THROUGH DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
Ready Together is a community resilience initiative delivered by Varsity Lakes Community Resource Centre (VLCRC). Through workshops, planning support, community events, partnerships and practical resources, we help people, families, organisations and communities prepare for emergencies, stay connected during times of disruption and recover together.

At VLCRC, we believe strong communities are built through connection, collaboration and supporting one another when it matters most. We know that resilience is not built during a disaster - it is built every day through relationships, preparedness and community participation.

Our Story
with Disasters
Get to Know Us
The Ready Together journey began following the severe South East Queensland Christmas storms of 2023. The sudden and widespread impacts of the storms highlighted how quickly everyday life can be disrupted and how many people were unprepared for the challenges that followed.

In response, VLCRC quickly opened its doors as a community hub, providing a place where people could access information, charge devices, connect with support services, seek assistance and find a sense of connection during a difficult time. Throughout the recovery process, we witnessed firsthand the importance of local community spaces, trusted relationships and practical preparedness.
These experiences reinforced the need for a more proactive approach to community resilience.
Today, Ready Together continues to bring people together to learn, connect and prepare. By working alongside residents, service providers, volunteers and community partners, we are helping create a Gold Coast where people feel supported, informed and better prepared for whatever challenges the future may bring.
